Kristen Drozdowski

Ypsilanti, Michigan

Kristen’s studio practice includes collaboration with natural materials such as earth pigments and plant dyes, non-toxic binders and raw, unprimed surfaces. Using paints she creates mindfully and patiently from these materials, her whole practice from start to finish is a meditation on deep relationship both with the material and with the nonmaterial, observing as subtle experiences such as fleeting emotions and memories are brought into into physical form. Sometimes, non-verbal communication is the strongest form of channeling. Kristen considers her art not abstract, but representational. A peaceful visual language of simple shapes and colors is expressed in each one of Kristen’s paintings, emerging through spontaneity, trust, and intuition. Her process is most influenced by spirit-centric connections between earth, water, light, body, and mind. Kristen is a longtime practitioner of traditional Ashtanga yoga and a lifelong meditator, she believes these practices shape the foundation for her relationship to her process making art. She is currently learning to teach both yoga and art, and finds purpose and devotion in holding space for others and we seek to discover ourselves deeper.
